Well, At Least the Pictures Of Germany Were Great

The collegiate basketball games haven't been so hot lately. I mean, Iowa State lost at Texas; Drake lost to Creighton; Iowa lost to Nebraska. Stuff like that. Newspaper talk, complete with page 1 cheerleading, boosterism-type headlines about postseason tournaments shows that some of the boys working in the mainstream media have been drinking something other than ice water with their dollar sandwiches from McDonald's. Hey, when a couple of the teams have RPI ratings of 107 [Drake] and 120 [Iowa], you start thinking about next season, not the NCAA tournament or even something called the College Insiders.com tournament. The only time you talk about the Big Dance is when you ask how the noise is these days at the Val Air. By the way, Northern Iowa is No. 50 and Iowa State is No. 57 in the RPI power rankings. I didn't have to watch a minute of the number Doc Sadler and his Huskers did on Iowa last night. I was too busy enjoying the picture show presented by a good friend of mine at church. The cake and coffee after the pictures made it a very nice evening for a dozen or so folks. And I haven't given much thought to how and why the Hawkeyes' Melsahn Basabe didn't attempt a field goal, scored one point and had one rebound while playing 13 minutes in the Hawkeyes' 79-73 loss. I guess that's what happens when a team comes off a 9-day layoff. Maybe too many chicken mcnuggets and not enough running and lifting. Must be why coaches are paid all money to figure out things like that. Speaking of coaches, Iowa hasn't won a game since Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany told coach Fran McCaffery he didn't want him throwing chairs on the sideline anymore. I don't know if that order has affected the psyche of McCaffery or his team. I'll have to check it out with Charlie from the Czech Village, who pays attention to stuff like that. Anyway, back to the pictures of Germany. They were obviously the highlight of last evening. I didn't bother looking at any video replays of what happened at Carver-Hawkeye Arena when I got home. Hey, tonight's another night of basketball. Tickets, hot dogs, popcorn and Cokes are priced at $1 each on "Buck Night" at the Drake-Bradley women's game at the Knapp Center. German pictures one night, $1 seats and $1 eats the next night. What a deal. By the way, the picture at the right is similar to one shown at church last night. Luisen platz is in the center of Potsdam, the capital of the German state of Brandenburg. Ever since the castle and gardens of Sanscoussi were built, Potsdam has been famous four its fountains. This is the largest one downtown, in front of Potsdam's Brandenburg Gate. Courtesy of Orangerie Potsdam Haupt.jpg on the Internet.
